Preparation of the parchment

Dry-clean the parchment with the silk pounce bag. Clean the parchment quickly with some demineralized water mixed with white vinegar.

 
     
 

Preparation of the illumination

Trace the model, and reproduce it on the parchment (without tracing the internal details of the drawing, as far as it will be necessary to sand the plate before the laying of the gold.

 
     
 

Laying of the gold on plate

Preparation of the plate: mixture of three solid ingredients (bowl of Armenia, lead white, white of Meudon) and 2 liquid ingredients (water of honey, fish glue) and some drops of demineralized water.

Mix thoroughly on a plate of frosted glass with a grinding wheel or a painting knife, until obtaining a cream in the texture of a yoghurt. Do not hesitate to add from time to time some drops of demineralized water.

To begin, there are two ways to fix the parchment. The parchment stuck on cardboard offers you the possibility of framing.

The parchment stuck on cardboard

Cut the parchment in the size of the model + 2,5 centimeters on each side. Stick that is, mount the cut parchment on a neutral PH wood cardboard with a starch glue. Put under press. Example of Parchment stuck on cardboard.

 

Parchment stuck on wood

Cut the parchment in the size of the model + 5 centimeters on each side. Dip the parchment into some water quickly. Position a white sheet on the wood. Stretch the parchment on the wood, and nail it to the edge of the wood. Let the parchment dry. Example of Parchment stuck on wood.
